Be Thou At Peace

Posted by CPT Adam Nordin, '07 on February 3, 2012:

Tim,

I write to you from Kandahar, Afghanistan.

I deployed to Afghanistan at the end of December 2011 to join 1-32 IN, 3 BCT, 10th MTN - your sister battalion - in their final months of this tour. When I arrived at the RAOC at KAF, I was confronted with your photo on the memory wall.

It's been almost 5 years since we've communicated. The last time I saw you was when I handed you a coin, on my West Point graduation day, after you gave me my first salute as a commissioned officer.

I'm reminded of you often, mostly when I'm running, because we used to talk about different theories on an efficient stride. I distinctly remember talking with you about shortening the stride length and increasing the cadence to be more efficient during one of our many training runs. So far, that idea has made me a better and more consistent runner.

Brother, words cannot express my pride in having known and served amongst such a warrior as you. Your sacrifice is a testament to the true nature of your character, one that will resonate within the beating hearts of every man and woman who raises their right hand to defend their friends, family, and country.

As you join the ranks of America's fallen heroes, stand tall and with pride: your memory gives us the strength to succeed, the will to defeat our foes, and the determination to protect our freedom.

Tim, so long as there is blood in my veins, you, my friend, will not be forgotten.

Always Remember, Never Surrender - 2007.

-Adam
