Be Thou At Peace

Our hometown hero being recognized today is Mr. Joshua Robert Minton. Mr. Minton was born June 8, 1987 in Wauseon, Ohio. He was a 2006 graduate of Elmwood High School and entered the military in 2006 as a cadet at the United States Military Academy where he graduated in 2010 and was commissioned as a field artillery officer. During his time at West Point he played collegiality for the Army Rugby team. He completed a deployment to Afghanistan in 2012-2013 with Bravo Battery, 4th Battalion, 319th Field Artillery Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team and medically retired from the Army in 2018. His awards and decorations include the Army Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and three Army Achievement Medals.

After the military, Josh was active with the Ulman Foundation and participated in the Key to Keys bike ride fundraiser. He also participated in the Ruck to Remember, a 60-mile march from Harper's Ferry to Arlington National Cemetery to support our nation's fallen heroes.

Captain Minton is survived by parents Bob & Sally Minton of McCutchenville & mother Robin (Darryl) Dykes of Independence, KY, sister Kim (Justin) Spencer of Risingsun, nieces Jocelyn & Hailey, also by those he considered his family, his brothers on the West Point rugby team and members of the 173rd Airborne.

Captain Joshua Robert Minton was laid to rest January 20, 2020 in Section 10 site 3129.
