Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Peter McIlvaine Hall USMA '63 on June 30, 2012:

"The Long Gray Line has never failed us. Were you to do so, a million ghosts in olive drab, in brown khaki, in blue and gray, would rise from their white crosses thundering those magic words 'DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY'"

Steven could not be with my class of 1963 in May 1962 when General Douglas MacArthur delivered his 'Duty, Honor, Country' speech, the consummate summary of West Point. A few years later USMA 1963 lost 18 KIA in Viet Nam. They and Stephen fulfilled their duty with honor to their country--each making the ultimate sacrifice. We must not ever fail them. I grip hands with all who grieve Steven's loss.
