. .LEWIS-Hubert duBois, Col., (US Army Retired) died in Marshall, TX on March 11, 2002 at the age of 95. An honors graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1930, Col. Lewis served with distinction in the United States Army until his retirement in 1958. During his long career Col. Lewis held a variety of technical and leadership positions including participation in the liberation of the Philippines in World War II and service as an Anti-aircraft Artillery Group Commander in Alaska during the Korean War. Col. Lewis also earned a Master's degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1937. Following his retirement, Col. Lewis settled in Marshall, TX where he worked for more than three years as a project engineer for Thiokol Chemical Corporation and later as a management analyst for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City. During his retirement Col. Lewis remained devoted to West Point and served for 27 years as the Area Admissions Coordinator for a substantial area of northeast TX. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Col. Lewis, more than two hundred young men and women received appointments to West Point and the other service academies and have served with distinction in the US armed forces. Col. Lewis' beloved wife of more than 62 years, Louise Lanke, predeceased him in 1993. He is survived by his son, Herman Lewis of Marshall, TX; his daughter Marie Lewis Matthews of Princeton, NJ; a sister, Josephine Utley of Seattle, WA; a brother, Paul A. Lewis of Santa Barbara, CA; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A private service and burial will be held at West Point on March 18, 2002. The family of Col. Lewis mourns his passing and and expresses its deep appreciation for his love and guidance during his lifetime. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the West Point Fund, Association of Graduates, Herbert Hall, 698 Mills Road, West Point, New York 10006
