Pete, Claudia, Bobby: It seems like only a very few years ago when your father was CO of RQMD. The number of summer evenings we (Pete, Bobby and me) played in that beautiful yard associated with your antebellum quarters are etched in my memory. Your father was always exceptionally understanding of our childish antics and very often overlooked what other fathers would have not. Case in point, one afternoon Bobby and I were using the upstairs sofa cushions as sleds to slide down the stairs. We decided to heighten the experience by pulling pillow cases over our heads so we were "sledding" blind. Bobby had just completed his run when General Broom calmly lifted the pillow case from his head lifted him from the sofa cushion, looked up to me and said we were not to use the sofa cushions for sleds. That was all he needed to say. Bobby and I retired to the lawn and breathed an audible sigh of relief. |
