Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Connie Lee Haugen/Harris on January 31, 2004:

My son became Airborne Qualified at Fort Benning the summer of 2003. He is a ROTC Cadet trying to get into West Point. I traveled to Fort Benning to witness my son's jumps and graduation. While there I noticed that the field was named for Pvt Elmer Fryar. Today I found that there is a Theater too named for this brave Pvt at Camp Haugen. More research about Camp Haugen and the Col. for who the camp was named led me here. I don't know if my dad now retired Col. George Haugen, class of '47 and Col. Orin Haugen are related but maybe somehow they are. I am glad to have learned about Col. Orin Haugen - The Rock - today. Sounds like he was quite the leader but more importantly had the respect of the men he led. Wish I could have met you Col. Maybe someday I will.
