Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Joseph M. Mazurek, COL USAR (Ret.) on April 12, 2010:

I served with COL Bauchspies in 1976-78 at Fort Greely, Alaska. He was Commandant of the Northern Warfare Training Center and I was a new 2LT on my first duty assignment. Being a small Post, the junior officers had opportunity to mingle with the more senior officers with more frequency than would have otherwise been the case. I certainly benefited from and appreciated my contacts with COL Bauschpies. I recall he had a wry sense of humor, even when he suffered an unfortunate accident on a glacier that resulted in the fracture of both his arms. Although I never saw him again after our time in Alaska I certainly remember him and regret his passing. Rest in Peace Sir.
