Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tairita -Mrs. John Waite on June 7, 2005:

Dear Little Sperandios,
I wanted to let you know how I remember your dad. He was the most creative and enthusiastic person I have ever met. During the time I lived with my husband and your dad, I never met a person that couldn't produce a fun story about "the chameleon". -He was sure to notice if the house was freshly cleaned, if something was different and to offer a compliment -even for the faintest of things. He was hilarious with his "noodle dance:, playing piano with his long toes and even running around the house on halloween with a jack-o-lantern mounted to the top of his head. Your dad was a sensitive man. He cried when tears should be shed- when someone cut down his dad's memorial tree and when he was so over taken with the love of your mom and made an engagement ring out of wrapped thread because he couldn't wait to ask her to marry him. He had the imagination to envision all kinds of possibilities - designing your mom's ring to mounting New Year's dates in lights on the roof. Doug'l-bug was dependable and spontaneous. He was there if you needed him...he was not only "there", but he was there with finesse. I loved the possibility that a knock on the door would have you all there in your RV -just passing through on your way somewhere. I knew when your Mom and Dad were married, that you would never lead dull lives. There would always be adventure on the horizon. Even the mundane would become interesting -We would joke about him naming you all "Asparagus, Basil and Cilantro" before you were even created! Although we didn't see your family as often as we all would like, you were always present in our daily lives -Each time we close the rear door to the Suburban, we say, "Watch your head, Doug!" -The world is not as bright with out you, Doug. You left an empty spot here...and you little Sperandios are here to fill the spot. We love you all, Tairita
