In 2005 and 2006 I attended 5th Infantry reunions that are held annually and at each I learned a little more about Captain Szekely. He had finished his one year tour in Vietnam as an engineer with the 25th Infantry and volunteered to extend to take command of our company of Mechanized Infantry. For a whole year all I could think about was going home as soon as possible, yet here was a man, a soldier who saw the need to do more and made the decision to continue serving his men and his country |
