Fred Whiting Timmerman

West Point, 1965

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Vann on January 18, 2026:

I had the pleasure of getting to know Tim both in the first regiment, later when we served at West Point in the early 70's, and at various other times in our Army careers. He was extremely well respected and dedicated to his profession (where he excelled), his family (who he cared for superbly and loved deeply), and his faith (which guided all aspects of his exemplary life). '65 will miss his smile, his wit, his brilliant mind, his thoughtful friendship, his courage, and his love for others. HIs soldiers and his students when he continued teaching after retiring surely owe him a debt of gratitude for his caring lessons of life and academic excellence. Besides his many major contributions to the Army and DoD in general, he left a lasting legacy at Fort Leavenworth as probably the best ever Director of Military Review. Rest well my friend---well done.
