"Tim" Timmerman was an important and dear friend to Diane and me. Were it not for Tim, there would be no "Diane and Joe Barkley" and no "Barkley family" as it is today. We do owe so much to him, as he introduced Diane and me at McGuire AFB in June 1962 -- but that is another long story. We were in each other's weddings in 1965. We were in the same Ranger and Airborne class. We were stationed near each other during those first years in the Army in Germany, and shared the births of our first children. While Tim and I were in Vietnam at the same time we did not see each other there, but our wives, Diane and Sue, and the kids, Christopher and Eric, lived a few miles a part in Morrisville , PA. We were neighbors at Benning. When they were at West Point and we were at the University of Scranton we visited them frequently. In Heidelberg in the mid '70s we were again neighbors and our kids played and grew up together. We became the "God parents" to Tracy Timmerman there. Those close associations continued throughout our lives and moves. We shared memorable times; the births of the kids and their weddings; the funerals of Sue's parents. And now we share this. The impact of Tim on our lives is and was profound. Interestingly we did have differences but we kept finding each other. Seeing Tim at the recent 60th Reunion was a special treat. It was as if we knew that we would not make the 65th together. In other places and on other pages Tim's illustrious career is chronicled and I cannot add to that here. His untimely passing just makes us wish that we had more time together and we kept waiting too long to get together again. Thank you Tim. "Well done. Be thou at peace."
