I had the great privilege to serve as his S4 and then Company C commander in 2/6th Infantry Battalion, Berlin Brigade. Later, he pulled me into the Pentagon where I served in DCSOPS under him as an Army Operations Center watch officer and then as an action officer in his ODS shop as part of Director of Military Support. We stayed in touch for many years afterward. He was a unique, soft-spoken commander, never toxic, with a subtle and savvy command style. Through him, I had opportunities that helped me grow as an officer and as a man. I will miss him. |
