Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Colonel John B. Halstead, Class of 1986 on July 17, 2010:

Chris represents everything elegant, true, and beautiful in this world. A natural leader, Chris was intelligent, athletic, poetic, artistic, loving, embracing, and a wonderful friend.

One of my favorite memories of Chris was shortly after he met Kelsey, his wife. Chris brought Kelsey to a bowling party. Chris was a great bowler... there are few things to do in the Minnesota winter. Kelsey consistently beat him, yet her eyes always communicated just how much she loved him.

When they were married in Albuquerque last year, it was one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever attended. Just after Christmas, a small blanket of snow dusted Albuquerque; pinon fires tingled the nose. The small adobe church was filled with his close personal friends from West Point, an adoring family (new and old), a personal pastor, and a beautiful bride. The warmth of the event protected all from the high desert winter cold. The day feels like yesterday and I am shocked that I will never be able to see him, talk to him, or embrace him.

In my heart I know Chris is in heaven, advance party, to welcome and protect his family, loving wife, troopers, and friends. We miss him and love him so much. Our prayers are for his family, especially Kelsey, who is as bright and glorious as a lily or rose.
