Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Donald Graesser on March 25, 2009:

Dick or as I knew him, "Schotzie" and I were roommates all four years while we were at West Point. There are many fond remembrances of our time together, but one was his love of his father, Lawrence, or as he said, Larry, a 1924 Old Grad. His father was an electrical engineer and based on the stories, we both agreed we could never equal his father. But we would both try, and I'm sure that Dick did turn out to be as good as his father had been. A second item was his love of smoking a pipe. Our firstie year, Bill Lyon joined us and we would buy a pack of all the brands of tobacco and mix them together. Our own West Point Blend. The last communication I had with Dick, he said he was living on oxygen. I felt bad and wished that we had never smoked as I'm sure that was the need for oxygen.

I have lost a friend and roommate. I can only say, "Be thou at peace as you join THE LONG GREY LINE".
