Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Randy Robinson on May 30, 2012:

While stationed in Okinawa from 1973-1974, General David, better known as Gen B.A.D due to his initials of his name, by the way a well respected commander, was respected by everyone. I worked at the Officers Club as a part time job after a long day at the finance office. I started as a dish washer and when the chef noticed I was interested in cooking, he said today you wash pots and pans tomorrow you learn to cook. Soon afterwards, Gen David had a small dinner party with filet meon as the main dish. I asked to cook the steaks, never have cooked a steak before that day. The dinner was served, 20 minutes or so later the doors to the kitchen came flying open, Gen David stated" who in the hell cooked those steaks". I admitted I did, he said "Those were the best damm steaks I have ever eaten here" There are several other stories that this E4 at the time could tell you... Gen David reenlisted me after I told my roommate, his driver, that the only way I would stay in this mans army was if Gen David swore me in. He called me at my office, set up a re-inlist date, showed up and did the honors. I am very proud to have known Gen David even though it was for only a year. May he rest in peace and my salute to General David is someday we can have another gin and 7up together...
