Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Frank Blazey on October 7, 2009:

Having known Ray for many years, I am saddened by the news of his death.

We both originated in southern Illinois, in fact Ray was appointed to USMA by a good friend of my mother's. Next in the 1959-62 years we were Tactical Officers together at the Academy where he was well recognized as an outstanding leader who possessed a warm personality. We also knew his family during this assignment as one of his sons was taught by my wife in the elementary school.

During the period 1963-64 we both served in an Army infantry division in South Korean as battalion commanders. Ray commanded with great skill and superior results which I remember being a competitor.

In the Viet Nam War I heard many excellent reports about Ray's distinguished service in the 173d Airborne Brigade and with CORDS in Bien Hoa under the leadership of Mr. John Vann.

My deepest sympathy is extended to his wife and to his family, Frank Blazey
