Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Francis X. Brennan on July 21, 2011:

I served with than LTC Fair in Vietnam as his Reconnaissance Platoon Leader. I consider him to be the finest officer I ever served with over a 22 year military Career. His compassion for soldiers was remarkable. His sense of duty, unparalleled. I vividly recall that after being wounded in the Ia Drang valley in August 1966, he took the time to write to my Mom to let her know I was going to be OK. To say I idiolized General Fair would be a misnomer! My relationship with the General went far beyond. I loved the man as only one soldier could love an other. Serving as one of his Platoon Leaders in the 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry was truely an honor. I will keep him in my prayers and my heart. Cross over General you deserve the rest. Your influence on so many soldiers lives on.
