1926-2016
A lifetime of service to God, family, friends and country. COL John Louis Carr, beloved and cherished husband of Jeanne Carr, faithful Catholic, father of seven well-loved children, a well-loved grandfather of 12 and a great-grandfather of three girls, the son of Louis and Mary Carr and brother to Bill and Alice, a proud 1944 graduate of Regis High School in NYC and the West Point class of 1949, died December 26, 2016.

John was born December 3, 1926 in Patterson, New Jersey. He married Jeanne Boquel, his high school sweetheart, on June 11, 1949.

Together, they faithfully served their country for the next 30 years in war and peace. His overseas stations included occupied Germany, Korea and Vietnam. While in Vietnam, from 1969-1970, he commanded the 71st Transportation Battalion. His headquarters staff assignments included US Army Europe, Allied Mobile Forces (Land) and The Joint Staff. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and earned a master of science degree from the University of Tennessee. His military awards include the bronze star and legion of merit.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanne, his seven children and their spouses. Daughter Jeanne Marie (Carr) and David Black of the Sea Ranch, CA; son Regis and Lana Carr of Peachtree City, GA; daughter Suzanne Carr of Jersey City, NJ; daughter Stephanie (Carr) Salmon of Catonsville, MD; daughter Adrienne (Carr) and Greg Ryder of Blacksburg, VA; son Christopher and Tami Carr of Chesapeake, VA; son Damian and Mary Beth Carr of Chesapeake, VA.

A funeral Mass was held on December 30, 2016 in Manassas.

His burial will occur at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
