Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jack Hayne on May 6, 2009:

Pearl and I haven't see or spoken to Don and Libbie since our training in Fort Sill in 1950. Although Don and I were in Korea at the same time we never crossed paths. Libbie grew up in Montgomery, NY and for over 60 years Pearl and I would drive through Montgomery on the way to and from West Point. As we drove past Libbie's home street we would comment on the location the bridge crossing the river etc., and wonder "Where are the Gowers now." It is a shame we never communicated.

Two years ago while driving through Montgomery I was distracted while conversing with Pearl and missed a change in the speed signs. Lo and behold, the flashing police car came up behind us and we ended up getting a ticket. Fortunately, the judge was understanding and warned me not to do it again for six months. No fine.

Now when driving through Montgomery, we think of the Gowers, the speeding ticket and the fact that in the 1920's Pearl's father bought his first horse in Montgomery.

We were very sorry when notified that Don passed away and that Libbie is not doing well.

Be thou at peace,

Jack and Pearl Hayne
