Be Thou At Peace

Mr. Allen Gregory Brown, 78, of Neptune Beach, Florida, passed away on Wednesday March 30.

Survivors include his son, Stephen Illges Brown of CLarkston, MI, his daughter, Virginia Brown Gnann, of Roswell, GA and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Mary Lou Illges Brown in 2002 and his two sons Allan G. Brown, Jr in 1999, and Robert Kingsley Brown in 2001.

Allan grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee where he graduated from the McCallie School in 1944. He excelled in track and field where he set records both in the 220 and 440 yard runs.

After entering The Georgia Institute of Technology he was granted entrance to the United States Military Academy fro which he graduated in 1949.

He served his country valiantly in the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart.

He and his wife opened The Swim Center in Chattanooga, Royal Patio Shop in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Strawhouse in Jacksonville, Florida. During the 1990's they purchased and restored the old Casa Marina Hotel in Jacksonville Beach which reopened in 2001. Mr. Brown retired in 2002.

A memorial service was held at the Casa Marina Hotel on Wednesday, April 6. Donations may be made in his name to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation
