I first met Elmer when he was assigned to the 11th Abn Division right after graduating from West Point. We were both Platoon Leaders in the 188th Regimen. We were good friends and I knew then he was a natural leader and would be a great officer. We went to Korea War together in 1952 and were both assigned to the 7th Infantry Division. It didn't surprise me that he was wounded as he was always out front. For an officer with so much natural talent he was still a very humble man. I knew him well, I respected him and I will never forget him. You had the whole package and used it all. Thank you for your service to our country. I salute you one more time. |
