Be Thou At Peace
Posted by ANDREW P. O'MEARA,, JR on June 30, 2005:
Our hearts are filled with pride as we morn our slain.
The noble die before their time.
It is the Cavalry way. It is the proud tradition of the Infantry.
Entering the fray undaunted they lead from the front. Fearless in the face of a naked crazed warrior covered with blood, he stood against great odds with old wounds unhealed, made fragile with the fleeting passage of time. Doing his duty to the last and dying as he lived in the service of those he loved.
He could have been a Roman warrior defending Hadrian's Wall against wild Celtic warriors who painted themselves blue and charged clad in naught but their own blood and the blood of the slain.
Thus fall the guardians of civilization -- unafraid, bold, champions of those they protect, and leaders to the last.
Our is not to choose the time and place we fall. Ours is but to stand firm, to hold the line, to protect freedom and liberty in rice paddies, desert sands, wind swept snow on hills named Old Baldy and Pork Chop Hill, and finally on streets we call our own.
Well done, be thou at peace.
God bless him. He is our own.
Andy
