Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Fred Schweiger on August 28, 2011:

Vince and I were roommates for two years at West Point. He quickly taught me how to play bridge but I never developed his skill level. Academics came easy to Vince except for one subject---German. Would you believe that during his army career he was sent to the language school in Monterrey, CA to learn German! He became fluent in the language and the army put that ability to good use.

While at West Point, Vince waited eagerly each week for the weekend to arrive. This is when Pat would faithfully come up from New York City to visit him. He could hardly wait until graduation so that they could get married.

We saw Vince and Pat at our 40th Reunion. You could tell that Pat was having a hard time but she was a real trooper and Vince was always at her side to lend a hand. It was a beautiful sight to see the love they shared together. When Pat died Vince came to visit us in Illinois for a week while he was doing research on his Vietnam unit at the Cantigny History Center in Wheaton, IL.

Vince was a close friend and demonstrated great love of God, Country and Family. Rest in peace, Vince, your work on earth has been well done.
