Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Margie Fresquez on May 21, 2012:

As a little girl I looked up to my uncle Leroy for many reasons. He was tall. He was handsome. He wore a military uniform - quite well in fact. He was extremely intelligent. He had a great laugh. He traveled the world and seemed to have adventure in his life.

As I grew into an adult the many reasons I loved and respected him for were the same and much more. He was genuine. He was a mentor and I wanted to be just like him -- or as near to being like him as possible. And although our face-to-face contacts were rare, when we did see each other I always admired his manner and his sincerity.

I will always cherish one particular visit when I was in Texas and he and I had dinner -- just the two of us. Wow!! I was a full-fledged adult and we had wine with our meal and a great time catching up.

We were cheated when he was murdered; because I truly believe he would have lived to be 100+ as he was in great physical condition. If there is truly a time for "reunion" in the hereafter; I look forward to mine with my uncle Leroy. In the meantime, I will continue to live life as he did -- always striving for success and to help others.
