Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jodi & Tom Johnson on October 16, 2012:

Gene Allred was one of a kind! Tom & I were just talking about him and Lil as we had lost touch with them over the last few years. When we moved to Phoenix 25 plus years ago, I took a design job with Lil at the Inside Story in Mesa. Gene, of course, was in the back office doing real estate, checking stocks, telling stories, and giving out great advice. We had many a night down at the bar having a beer and a quesadilla, or Gene's favorite shrimp dish, raspberry ice cream & ouzo at a restaurant down the street. He was always telling unbelievble stories about his life. He helped us buy our first home and was never at a loss for "fatherly" time if we needed some. He took us on many an airplane ride, much to Tom's dismay when he said wear comfortable clothes and tennies in case we crash! I can see why he loved to fly and the exhilleration it gave him & me. He was always so generous, giving, and uniquely him, as well as Lil. I learned so much from them both. All our love, Tom & Jodi Johnson
