Be Thou At Peace

Posted by CMSgt Conley E. Broome, Hq Comd, USAF, Senior Enlisted Advisor on June 2, 2014:

For some strange reason, today, I thought of Col. Allred, and wondered whether he and Colleen had ever returned to Arizona. Although I had only known the Colonel and his Wife, for a short time, I loved this man as if my brother, and became relatively sick when recently hearing of his passing. My connection with Colonel Allred occurred, during the 1974 - 1975, time frame, and after he had become the Wing Commander, at CCK AB, in Taichung, Taiwan. As Wing Commander, he was in need of a Senior Enlisted Advisor, and he chose me for the assignment. I must say that this was the best thing that could have happened to me and for my Military Career, for not only did I make a wonderful friend, but I also worked for one of the best Officers and person that I could have ever hoped to work for. I truly respected and cared for this Man and his lovely wife. It was during the transition period and eventual closure of CCK, that the Colonel and I became very close in dealing with people-problems that are normally associated with the closing of an Air Base, especially, if located in an overseas area. Upon my departure from Taiwan, I was selected by Major General William Norris, Commander, Hq Comd, USAF, as the Hq Comd, USAF Senior Enlisted Advisor. Although the Allreds crossed my mind on several occasions, I never had the opportunity to see the Colonel, again. May the Lord continue to watch-over this loving family.
