Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Bill Streett on July 20, 2015:
Cliff and I occupied adjacent desks on the top floor of Washington Hall when we were both teaching in the Department of Earth, Space and Graphic Sciences (ES&GS) in the early 1960's. He was fiercely competitive in almost every aspect of his career, but always ready to reach out and help others. He was a truly brilliant man and a born leader of men. He had many insights into the substance of what we taught, and I always marveled at his grasp of many subjects, especially mathematics.
In addition to being colleagues in ES&GS, in the early years we were neighbors in the old "Grey Ghost" quarters at West Point, where I got to know Jean, and where our children became good friends. When Cliff took the post of Director of Facilities at Northeastern University I was a little envious of his good fortune in working at one of the Boston area's top universities. I saw him only occasionally after our tours at West Point, but I remember him well as a friend, colleague and neighbor.
Well done Cliff, Be Thou at Peace!
