Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Carl H. McNair,Jr. on November 2, 2012:

Jim Drummond was a super soldier, from Day One at USMA. Having served my four years in Company E-1, adjacent to his Company F-1,I came to know him well as we shared many classes together, intramural teams and Class Commmittees. Jim was a strong leader, always "leading from the front" - a natural to be named Company Commander of F-1 in our First Class Year - and to graduate in the top 10% of the class.

In the fall of First Class year, I knew him best when we served on the same referee team for intramural football, and we were selected to referee the lst Regimental Finals, thanks to Jim's football prowess both at the University of New Mexico and West Point - I simply followed his lead.

As Jim moved up in the Army, he became the senior Army Operational Tester, commanding both the TRADOC Combined Arms Test Activity at Fort Hood followed by the Army Operational Test and Evaluation Activity. In this capacity, he was responsible for the final sign-off on the operational suitability for major Army weapons systems such as the Blackhawk and Apache, as well as ground systems for the Infantry, Artillery, and Armor.

Jim will be long remembered by all who knew him for his many contributions to our Army and to the communities in which he served. Well done, thou good and faithful servant - Be thou at peace.

Grip hands - Faithfully,

Your friend and classmate,

Carl McNair, '55
