Robert G (Bob) Millard died Tuesday, August 16, at the age of 80 years, 11 Months, and 24 days of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born the second son of the late Alfred E and Fanny Hilton Millard on August 23, 1930 in Providence RI.

He attended public schools in Providence RI. Bob had just finished his freshman year at the University of Rhode Island in 1950 when his National Guard unit was called to duty for the Korean War. After several months of duty he was offered an appointment to the United States Military Academy Prep School and then later accepted an appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point, NY where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with the Class of 1955 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force.

He spent 10 years in the United States Air Force which included flight schools in Marianna FL, Laredo TX and Waco, TX, He spent 3 years at Little Rock Air Force Base where he served as a B-47 pilot in the Strategic Air Command, went on to earn a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics as at MIT and then became a professor of Astronautics and Computer Science at the United States Air Force Academy.

He resigned his commission on June 5, 1965, and spent 25 years with IBM as a systems analyst on Space programs from Gemini through the Shuttle.. He retired April 1, 1990 and spent the next 21 years in retirement.

He enjoyed his computer and spent many hours solving aeronautical problems with pilots all over the world During retirement years, he and his wife Kitty spent summers in the Northwest where he loved to hike and fly fish in the wonderful rivers around Red Lodge MT and Yellowstone National Park. He was a Christian and was an active member at Nassau Bay Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, the former Myra (Kitty) Swogetinsky, son Michael D and wife Cindee Millard, grandchildren, Meredith Diana and Michael Garner of Waco, TX, and son Richard S and wife Emi Millard, grandchildren Mie Elizabeth, Milton Burke, and David Burke Millard of Nassau Bay. He is survived by a brother, William E Millard of North Providence, RI and wife, Millie along with their family and cousin, William Raisey and wife Jean from Purcell OK. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Katherine Elaine, and infant granddaughter Mika Katherine.
