Robert Dean McKelvey

West Point, 1955

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Carl H. McNair, Jr. on May 19, 2009:

Mac was destined to fly from his first day at West Point, having entered the Academy as a Regular Air Force appointee. He achieved that goal in June 1955, gaining his Air Force commission and completing flight training, followed by distinguished service as a fighter pilot in peace and war. More than two decades later, he retired and pursued a successful second career with General Dynamics, famous for aircraft development and production over the years.

And in the famed words of "High Flight" by John Gillespie Magee, Jr, Mac has now truly "slipped the surly bonds of earth -- put out his hand and touched the face of God."

May he now rest for all eternity in the arms of the Almighty. Tally Ho, dear classmate, hope to fly your wing one day.

Carl McNair
