Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bill Brown on September 13, 2010:

I pause to salute Frank Donald, a friend and roommate for three years in Company I-2. We both came to West Point from Alabama, growing up about 50 miles apart. We met only briefly one time before entering upon plebe year together. Plebe year was a tough adjustment for Frank after three years at Louisiana State University, but he managed to endure without losing his zest for life or his great sense of humor.

Frank was a leader, and he often gave me encouragement when I needed a boost. He provided wise counsel for those of us who were younger and less experienced in life. During firstie year Frank served as I-2 Company Commander, and I was privileged to assist him as XO.

After graduation our military careers took us in very different directions, and unfortunately we never had the opportunity to be assigned in the same area. Therefore, our contacts over the years were infrequent.

Farewell, my friend. "Well done; be thou at peace."
