Walter C. McCrillis II, age 82, of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 2:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at Spring River Christian Village.

Walter was born March 19, 1932. in Middleboro, Mass., the son of the late Clifton and Ruth (Skillings) McCrillis. He graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. He entered and served in the Air Force, where he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his 24 year military career, he became a Lutheran minister. He served as a minister for 27 years. He was a member of the West Point Alumni.

He married Nancy McCrillis, on July 9, 1955, she preceded him in death on July 24, 2014. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Mae McCrillis; and a brother, Charles McCrillis.

He is survived by two daughters, Polly McCrillis-Mach and husband, Rich, Wentworth, Mo., and Lorily McCrillis-Haase and husband, Charles, Kansas City, Kan.; three brothers, George McCrillis and wife, Lorraine, Englewood, Colo., Robert McCrillis and wife, Doris, Durham N.C., and John McCrillis and wife, Sharon, Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Eric, Jacob, Tess, and Lydia; and three great-grandchildren, Eric, Nataliya, and Analeah.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pastor Gregory Mach will officiate. Graveside Committal of Ashes will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, in Springfield, Mo..
