Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George Kennebeck on July 7, 2010:

Like all of my classmates, my first meeting with Sandy was July 3rd 1951. We both ended up in Company F-1 and spent the next four years together. Sandy had gone to college before he entered West Point so had very little problem with the math and tech subjects, but German was another story. He had to take "turn-out" exams in German, but passed. During cow year I had a date with a girl from New York, Jane Murphy and Sandy liked her and asked if he could date her. The rest is history - they married after graduation and I was in the wedding. Our paths did not cross during our service life because he was Army and I was Air Force, but we continued to share. Our first children (both girls) were born on the same day. When the girls signed up for nursing courses at Vanderbilt -- they were in the same class. After Jane died, Sandy settled in the Temple area, had a condo in Corpus Christi and came to Austin often - mostly for West Point functions. He had a happy personality and enjoyed life - especially dancing. (He was a Hop manager as a cadet. He was one of our older classmates and we will miss him. George Kennebeck '55
