Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jack Campbell on July 7, 2010:

I knew Sandy at West Point, but really got to know him after we graduated. We both went Corps of Engineers and then to the same unit after the basic course and airborne training. We joined the 23rd Armored Engineer Bn at Ft Knox and gyroscoped with the unit to Germany.Sandy was a good soldier and a good husband to his wife Jane. Sandy left the service before his tour in Germany was over and went back to Illinois to be with his wife and new baby.

We kept loosely in touch, but in 1978 I was transferred to Ft Sheridan, IL and we renewed our friendship. We never lost that friendship as the years went on. Sandy was a loyal friend, a fun loving person and an easy going guy.We had many good times together in Texas, in Colorado and on class gatherings, be that reunions or trips.

We are gonna miss you Sandy, but know you will be out there leading the dance and whistling along with the angels. We know you'll carry on...

Be thou at peace. ~jack
