Be Thou At Peace

Posted by David Humphrey on February 14, 2001:

Dad was born on July 24, 1932 in Hornell, NY. He grew up in a small NY village named Canisteo. In July 1951, he was sworn in as a cadet at West Point. He graduated in June 1955. Upon graduation he was assigned to the 101ST Airborne Division as a paratrooper at Fort Campbell, KY. One night a man (I apologize I can't recall his name) witnessed to Dad and lead him to Christ. As a result, Dad said he wanted to be "a general in God's army". Therefore, he was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1957. He and Mom were married on July 5, 1960. Dad then graduated from Golden Gate Theological Seminary in 1963. He served 43 years in the ministry - pastoring 4 Baptist churches and serving as an international evangelist. In 1989, he was president of the Fellowship of Tennessee Baptist Evangelists. He passed away on April 4, 2000 in Sevierville, TN.

Dad is survived by his wife, Nancy, and four children, Becky, Rick, Debby, and David. He also has ten grandchildren.

It is untelling how many lives were touched as a result of Dad being obedient and allowing Christ to work through him.
