John Edward Dryer

West Point, 1955

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by R. C. H. Schmidt on April 19, 2011:

"Oh, listen to the rumble, the crashing and the roar,
It's only Mister Dryer, a-comin' to the door.
Oh, he's so tall and handsome, the smallest of the small,
And he's known to the Second Detail as the Wabash Cannonball."

Entering at 240# and slimming to 212# by the end of Beast Barracks, Julie was asked loudly by a Firstie, "Mister Dryer, where did you get those trousers? From Omar, the tentmaker? A fistful of plebeskin trousers was bunched under his belt behind his back. West Point tailors solved the problem by the time John was assigned to M-2.

With his passing, M-2 has broached the LD-50 level. Farewell, Julie.
