Be Thou At Peace

Bill Haas Funeral

Bill Haas was buried with full military honors on November 6, 2018 at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. His Memorial and Burial Services were both beautifully performed by Reverand Dick Hoeferkamp, West Point 1955 classmate and "Ranger Buddy". Reverand Hoeferkamp stressed the necessity for love, hope, comfort and peace in a persons life.

Doctor Edward Dwyer West Point '62 wrote an eloquent tribute/eulogy to Bill which was subsequently read by Alex Bimes, grandson of Bill. Doctor Dwyer was not able to attend due to illness. The Tribute focused on life lessons that Bill taught him while he was a 2nd Lieutenant in Bill's Infantry Company serving in Korea and throughout his military and civilian careers. They were lifelong friends.

In attendance representing the Class of 1955 were Dick Hoeferkamp and Larry Michalove. Other West Pointers in attendance were George Meighen '51, Robert Hunt '54, Chris Stone '64, Peyton Ligon '66, Ralph Chester '80, Paul Howell '85, Jay Patton '87, Butch Agsalud '88, Ryan Thomas '90, Rob Dotson '91, Matt Bacik '02, and Chris Tanner '06.

The funeral detail from the Alabama National Guard did a fine job with the firing of a gun salute and a bugler who played a touching rendition of Taps. The funeral and graveside ceremonies were attended by Bill's wife, Laura and the families of their three daughters, Jane, Cathy and Bridget. Many friends were also in attendance.

A beautiful wreath provided by the Class of 1955 was on display at both the funeral home for the Memorial Service and subsequently transported to the graveside. It was greatly appreciated by the entire Haas family.

A reception was later held for family and friends.

Sincerely
Larry Michalove '55
