Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bill Peters on November 13, 2018:

Bill and I were classmates in the same battalion at West Point. We attended the Basic Infantry Officers Course and Airborne and Ranger Courses together. We both had our first troop duty in the same battalion of the 2nd Armored Division in Germany. Then we served together as instructors in the Florida Ranger Camp. That is where I have my favorite memory of Bill. He came out of the swamp after two days there with some twenty Ranger students. Half wet with swamp water, the other half wet with sweat, neither smiling nor frowning. But with that self-assured look that he had shown those Ranger students, again, that he could do anything they could do and in the process made them better soldiers, better Rangers.

There are so many laudable descriptors that I could use to describe my friend Bill. If I could only use one, it would be "soldier".
