William Edward Haas

West Point, 1955

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Carl H. McNair, Jr. on November 28, 2018:

Bill Haas was a true Infantryman, born for battle, as evidenced by his heroic actions as a Battalion Commander in Vietnam where he earned 2 Silver Stars, 3 Bronze Stars (2 for Valor), Purple Heart, 5 Air Medals and the Legion of Merit. He had learned his combat skills well while serving as a Ranger Instructor in the Infantry School.
His service in many other key positions, over his two decades of service, included instructor in the English Department at USMA, HQ Staff, V Corps in USAREUR, and HQ Staff, TRADOC at Fort Monroe where he served with equal distinction. During each of his assignments, he proved himself to be a "man of action" and a loving husband for Laura over more than a half century. He was the proud father of his three daughters, Jane, Cathy and Bridget, and his six grandchildren.
Bill was a dedicated and devoted member of the Class, always ready to take on any task and "serve on point" for the benefit of all, fund raising, reunions and other special projects. During my own term as Class President, Bill was especially helpful in managing our Class Flower Fund to provide a Class Wreath for presentation at the interment ceremonies for a class member. At his own interment, he was duly recognized with just such a wreath.
In sum, Bill Haas was a model classmate for all, admired, respected and much appreciated over the 63 years he served with us. May he now rest in peace and may his family and friends always know that he was a model soldier and spirited gentleman.

ARMY STRONG!!--GRIP HANDS!!--THY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT!!
