Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bill Hadly on November 8, 2015:

Ray (Gundy) Gunderson was my roommate my plebe, Yearling and Cow year. We shared our trials with the academic and discipline forces. Ray was a delightful man. During Cow year he became Regimental boxing champ. After graduation we followed the same Infantry path from Basic Infantry to Airborne and Ranger School where he was my buddy. Although we never served together we visited. He and his lovely wife, Ann, were totally in love. Ray's eyesight failed until he could barely see. One time when we had a Montana Rendevoix, Ray and our dear classmate Bulldog Drummond (RIP), drove out from VA to attend. The stories they told about that journey with Gundy half-bllnd and Bulldog deaf were priceless. At one time Ray was driving and Bulldog asked him if he knew how fast he was driving, and Gundy replied about 80, what is the speed limit. Of couse Bulldog could not hear his answer. Ray was a wonderful human being. Charlie Johnson described him as a "sweet man" and that he was. His passing has put a dent in many hearts. He was a wonderful West Pointer.
