I first met Dick when I signed on to be an Admissions Dept. Liaison officer for USMA in Grand Rapids, MI back around 1987... Dick was a mentor, a friend and always a soldier. He had a great sense of humor and a way of making you feel you were the best friend he had in the world. He was student of his profession and I remember many times sitting in his den at his home while he highlighted specific points from books that surrounded his walls from floor to ceiling. We worked many years together in support of USMA Admissions Dept. activities and every aspiring cadet he met had his encouragement and support from Day 1. All who served with him were privileged to have known him. I know when my time comes to "cross over the river and rest under the shade of the trees" I'll hear Dick's deep voice saying "Well Hello There Joe" and all will be well... |
