Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Paul Parks on April 12, 2003:
Ski and I did not know each other very well until later in life. Of course I knew who he was due to his wonderful contribution to Army Athletics. That acquaintenship changed to friendship and love following the mini-reunion in Colorado Springs. I received a letter from Ski following that mini dated 2 September 1993. In that letter Ski spoke most eloquently and tenderly of "a celebration of the human spirit" that he saw in Bobbie and me. You cannot imagine the depth of feeling that big lug of a football player conveyed. He quoted from one of his uncles' diary the following which he carried with him: "It is the test alone that establishes the worth: no one untried is ever worthy." During Ski's illness the best I could do was return a copy of the letter to him with my own feeble attempt to indicate how much it had meant to me. Ski was tried many times, met every test, and established his worth.
Be at peace, dear friend. Well done!
