Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dan Moses on April 12, 2003:

I had the opportunity to get to know Ski while I was the manager of the baseball team for a couple of years. Ski, Rich(team captain), Todd, and lots of others made that a great time to include the practices and the games. Ski played baseball just like he did football-to win. We were playing at one of the Ivy League colleges when Ski hit an in-the-park home run to win the game in the 10th inning-the catcher who tried to block home plate will always remember Ski's flying approach and the catcher's removal. I was assigned to the 3d Armored Division in 1957-60 when Ski played for and helped coached the "Mainz Troopers" in the 8th Infantry Division , which included some great football players who came to Germany with the 504 Abn and the 505 Abn from Ft. Bragg. Ski represented to me what a great Infantry, Airborne, Ranger, West Point Officer should be! Regret that Henry and I have never met Ute-we wish her the best during this difficult time.
