Be Thou At Peace

Posted by BG (Ret) David H. Cameron on September 15, 2005:

I counted Jim McNulty a true friend and surely one of the most kind and gentlemanly human beings I have ever known. He was professionally ambitious, energetic, highly intelligent, and a fine scholar. He was a superb teacher and leader, whether he was training and supervising his instructors or was in the cadet classroom. His principle work in developing course curricula and examinations and supervising the 40-50 instructors under his charge was invariably highly professional and efficient. He took on extra teaching in electives in mathematical modeling (the heart of mathematical applications) and went on introduce this course at George Mason University. Some of our luncheons after our retirement were with a few ex-math p's in Northern Virginia and the respect in which he was held by these former subordinates was obvious. He was always interested in their lives and families.

I close with my rememberence of Jim as a man of unbendable character and unbreakable faith in the Lord, an opinion strongly indorsed by my wife, Carolyn. I do believe he would have been an outstanding priest but that was not his calling. So his legacies are the multitude of graduates and faculty members whose lives and characters he helped shape who serve the nation today and the wonderful children he and Carol so devotedly raised to carry on his life and memory.
