Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Don Sheehan on October 26, 2006:

Jim and I lived next door to each other for four years at West Point, he in C-2 and I in D-2. His military leadership potential was clear from the first day in Beast Barracks. We were in many classes together during our cadet days (he excelled in academics), including PE, where Jim was a tiger, especially in Saturday morning boxing and wrestling. Jim ranked high enough in our class to choose the Corps of Engineers for his branch. I was commissioned into the Air Force, so we did not see one another for several years - until we were graduate students together at the University of Illinois in 1962-63. Jim did me great honor when he asked me to be his Godfather when he converted to our Catholic faith in Urbana, IL. We never shared one anothers' company after we graduated, but I know that Jim lived his new faith quietly and confidently. He surely enjoys a prominent place in the Long Grey Line, and in the Heavenly Kingdom.
