Bill was a capable, friendly, guy who was an encouragement to all of us who were going thru the rigors of the strangest year of our lives. I remember one time when three or four of us, perhaps mail carriers, were in a room when a Yearling came in and we all popped to and listened while we were reminded of some shortcoming and being urged to buck up and do better. I was doing fine until I heard a voice much like Jack Conklin's mutter in a low but very distinct voice 'Hip Hip!'. My smirk became a strangled guffaw and I was soon in a co starring role with the Yearling (Taufer?). I noted Bill's kindly wisp of a smile as I endeavored to adjust my attitude and demeanor. The word 'simple' was in the air. What could it mean? |
