Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Robert St. Louis on November 24, 2011:

George Stapleton joined the Long Grey Line with characteristic enthusiasm. He was a standout cadet at West Point excelling in tactics and many extracurricular activities. Following four unforgettable years as C dash one company mates, we served together, starting out in the Airborne at Fort Bragg, followed by Vietnam in 1971 and later at the Army War College. These assignments include lasting memories of his service and our soldier's camaraderie.

When George developed cancer, he fought it courageously. We of C-1 rallied around him as he rallied against it. Mary Lou and I last saw George and Lynell in Hawaii in February 2011. As always, they were upbeat and smiling -- still displaying that friendly, optimistic and warm persona we came to admire and now miss so much.

Now, after years of loving support, Lynell has tragically and unexpectedly joined him. May they rest in peace -- together -- always.
