Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Gene Lynch on July 28, 2010:

Dear Ann:
Since Dirk was in the 1st Regiment at West Point, our paths did not cross very much during our cadet days. We did get to know each other after graduation at Ft Sill, OK and Ft Benning, GA. It wasn't until we were in the DC area that we got to see you and Dirk periodically and we enjoyed you and Dirk at such occasions.

I remember when I was working for my company in Tyson Corner and was recruiting for a Computer Analyst position in my Crystal City Office, I was given a set of resumes to select for personal interviews. One jumped out at me because of the last name -- Lueders. I figured that Don had to be the sibling of Dirk, so he had two things going for him. First he had to be the son of Ann and Dirk, and equally important, he had a very impressive resume. I wasn't certain of the former, until I interviewed Don, who conducted himself quite professionally. It wasn't until the end of the interview that I asked Don if his Dad had graduated from West Point, and that point was confirmed. To Dirk's professionalism, he never contacted me while I was considering all applicants for this position. I know that you and Dirk were very proud of Don at that stage in his life. Needless to say, Don was the best candidate and one of my better hires for the company for that Program -- it couldn't have been any other way since you and Dirk had taught him well.

I really got to know Dirk when he volunteered to help me on the Photo Subcommittee for the Class of 1956 Walkway 50th Memorial Gift to West Point. I was always able to count on Dirk doing an outstanding job, regardless of the assigned task and time constraints. I know he stands tall in Heaven in his place in the Long Grey Line.

God Bless Dirk, and may God Bless you and the Lueders family. I
