Charles Givens Prather

West Point, 1956

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Pat Haley on October 11, 2004:

I just sent Ann short note. As I told her, it was hard to think of just Charlie. It was always Charlie and Ann. They were the finest example of the Army officer and his wife. Whether at West Point or out in the world they spent countless hours taking care or they people they led. Their example has, I'm sure, served their graduates from D-4 very well.

Personal memories are many. The parties in the basement of their quarters on Lee Road. The bus trips to New York and Mama Leone's. The swimming parties in Washington. And most of all the formals at the Prather house at Christmas time. Charlie insisted we put on our tuxedos on behalf of our ladies. Do you see a trend here? They were the consummate host and hostess.

Charlie was always the kind and soft spoken gentleman. He loved to enter discussions for just the sake of discussion. As I told Ann, I felt honored to be his friend. He will be missed.
