Be Thou At Peace

For Don Barlow

It is a privilege to know exceptional people.

One could use a thousand words or more to say all there is to say about Don.

Yet six words will suffice.

Honor -- Don was bred and schooled in honor. He lived it. He always did the right thing because that and only that was his way. It reflected on him and all who were his.

Patriot -- He loved America, its people and its way of life. He worked hard for it. Even more, he fought for it in battle. He was its soldier and defender. You cannot say more.

Husband -- Don loved Bobbie just as Bobbie loved Don. He was her lover, her best friend, her inspiration, her hope, her refuge, her everything - as was she to him.

Father -- Don not only brought his children into this world but nourished them, guided and formed them and has been their backstop all their lives.

Friend -- We all felt his friendship, his warmth, his support, his compassion and his fidelity. Knowing Don improved us all. We are diminished by his passing.

Virtue -- means all the good that a man can be. Virtue comes from the word "vir", that is, a man, a complete human being, elegantly made in the image and likeness of God. Don had it all.

Hand Salute. It has been a privilege.
